The eighth album has taken a slightly wearier turn with an eerie documentation of depression and the “death of common decency”. Most of the CD’s tracks were recorded on a four track machine, which nowadays gives an almost cold edge to each song. The album holds as much beauty in the lyrics as it does the sadness within the sadder sounds from the guitar and piano. It’s not all doom-and-gloom for Everett though, and the album carries with it a hope that there is indeed something better to look forward to.

... with another beautiful arranged and performed album, introspective and reflective, soft and a little melancholical. but with the typical characteristics of an eels-album: beautiful lyrics and music, happy tones while the content is about loss, pain, ...
again: originally layered music that deserves listening to over and over again to discover all that's offered.
